Last night, members of Teamsters Local 1038 working at Hollywood Casino at Greektown and MotorCity Casino in Detroit voted to ratify new contracts with significant wage increases and improved benefits. The ratification ended a 34-day strike that was forced upon workers after the two properties failed to offer livable wages or fair benefits.
Union members stood strong on the picket line, while the negotiating committees for Local 1038 and four other unions made large gains at the bargaining table.
This is just the latest example of the Teamsters and our allies taking a hard stance against corporate greed and ultimately winning strong contracts.
The new contracts offer the most significant wage increases in the history of the Detroit casino industry and will help alleviate the hardships Detroit casino workers endured after sacrificing raises and shouldering heavier workloads during the COVID-19 pandemic.
