HAPPENING NOW: CELEBRATING 120 YEARS OF TEAMSTERS LOCAL 120
More than 250 stewards from Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota are attending Teamsters Local 120’s Steward Seminar today in Bloomington, Minn. This year's seminar holds special significance as Local 120 marks its 120th year fighting for members.
Teamsters Central Region International Vice President and Local 120 President Tom Erickson and Local 120 Secretaty-Treasurer Bill Wedebrand kicked off the day’s events, emphasizing the crucial role stewards play in representing members every day in the workplace.
“Today is about you and everything that you do for the members. As stewards, you are the backbone of this local, interpreting contracts in the members' best interest and always helping people,” Erickson said.
Following Erickson’s opening remarks, Teamsters Central Region International Vice President Danny Avelyn addressed stewards and discussed the importance of contract enforcement and the accomplishments made under the O’Brien-Zuckerman administration.
“Stewards are the first line of defense in protecting our members and making sure contracts are enforced,” Avelyn said. “Every day, your co-workers count on you to be their voice, to relay their concerns and fight for them in the workplace.”
Throughout the day, stewards will hear presentations from speakers on topics like grievance and arbitration procedure, political and legislative initiatives, safety and health, as well as a variety of different breakout sessions on key issues representing members in the workplace.
