The following is a statement from Jesse Case, Director of the Teamsters Food Processing Division, regarding the federal government’s reclassification of cannabis:



“The federal government’s move to reclassify medical cannabis is a meaningful step forward. It will help expand research, improve patient access, and ease regulatory barriers for a growing industry.



This progress creates real momentum to go further: reclassify adult-use cannabis, fix outdated banking and tax policies, and allow interstate commerce so the industry can grow responsibly.



At the heart of this industry are 400,000 workers. The Teamsters have been proud to help organize cannabis workers and raise standards — securing better pay, benefits, and a real voice on the job.



As reform continues, it should also include expungement and clemency for nonviolent cannabis convictions.



Cannabis workers deserve the same opportunity as any worker to build stable, middle-class careers — and the Teamsters are committed to helping make that a reality.”
