Opening day at Fairmount Park in Collinsville, IL, was made possible by members of Teamsters Local 525, who handled training and starting gate operations.

Throughout the racing season, they play a critical role in preparing horses and maintaining order at the gate on race days. Their coordination contributed to a successful event attended by 5,000 spectators. Nearly half a million patrons visit Fairmount Park's horse racetrack every year.

“Opening day reflects our commitment to ensuring safe and efficient race operations,” said Michael Ahring, assistant starter and proud steward of Local 525. “It can be a dangerous job, but we take pride in working closely with the jockeys and horses.”
