A US Foods driver and member of Teamsters Local 853 tragically lost his life on the job at the company’s Livermore, Calif., distribution center. The International Union remains in close coordination with the local union as a formal investigation into the incident continues.



“Our hearts are with the family, loved ones, and co-workers of Brother Juan Jacobo during this unimaginable loss,” said Tom Erickson, Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division. “No worker should ever lose their life on the job. We mourn alongside Local 853 and will stay fully engaged to ensure the facts are uncovered and that every possible step is taken to protect Teamsters on the job.”



Jacobo was a dedicated Teamster, loving husband, and father of five. The Teamsters understand that CAL-OSHA, the California Department of Industrial Relations, is actively investigating this tragic incident.



“This is a devastating loss for our union and our community,” said Steve Beck, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 853. “Juan was a hardworking Teamster and family man, and he will never be forgotten. Local 853 will stand with his family, support our members, and fight to ensure accountability and safety so that no other family has to endure this kind of tragedy.”
