Teamsters Demand A/V Regulation After Tragic Waymo Incident in San Francisco

Teamsters joined San Francisco Supervisor Jackie Fielder and residents of the Mission District honoring KitKat, a beloved neighborhood cat who was struck and killed by a Waymo. Rallygoers voiced support for a resolution introduced by Fielder that calls on state leaders to let California counties regulate autonomous vehicles (AVs).

“We can no longer let Big Tech companies like Waymo run roughshod over San Francisco,” said Tony Delorio, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 665. “Local control is critical to ensuring robotaxi companies don’t outsource tragedy and job loss to our communities just so shareholders can get richer at our expense.”

California AV regulation is currently dictated solely by two state agencies, the California Public Utilities Commission and Department of Motor Vehicles.
