Peb recommends raises for blet-teamsters at lirr, calls on carrier to settle contract dispute

PEB RECOMMENDS RAISES FOR BLET-TEAMSTERS AT LIRR, CALLS ON CARRIER TO SETTLE CONTRACT DISPUTE

Last month, the BLET of the Teamsters Rail Conference along with four other unions requested a Presidential Emergency Board (PEB) to help resolve a contract dispute for workers at Long Island Rail Road (LIRR).

That PEB issued a ruling recommending raises for all 600 Teamsters locomotive engineers and calling on the carrier to settle the contract dispute. Importantly, the PEB rejected LIRR’s request for sweeping changes to contract conditions that would have harmed members.

“We had hoped to avoid a strike, that’s why our coalition asked for a PEB.” said Kevin Sexton a National Vice President of the BLET. “While we don’t agree with everything the PEB had to say, such as the length of the agreement and the raises were lower than our ask, this is a step in the right direction. Let’s use this report as guidance, get back to the bargaining table, and agree to a fair settlement.”
