Early Thursday morning, Teamsters volunteer political coordinators from across the country and International Union staff marked the end of the 2025 Political Coordinators Meeting with a DRIVE blitz. Officers, business agents, and stewards from Teamsters Local 639 joined in to connect with UPS Teamsters around Maryland and Virginia.

During visits to five sites across two shifts, members heard how DRIVE (Democratic, Republican, Independent Voter Education) ensures Teamsters have a voice in politics — from electing candidates who prioritize the interests of working families to lobbying for pro-worker legislation at the local, state, and national levels. Local 639 boosted DRIVE participation by more than 40%, showing their enthusiasm for stepping up to make sure workers are represented at every level of government.

Through DRIVE, Teamsters are building the political power needed to fight back against corporate schemes pushed by UPS CEO Carol Tomé — such as automated warehouses and driverless vehicles — and to win the wages, protections, and benefits that working families need today and for generations to come.

“I’ve seen firsthand how critical DRIVE is to building Teamsters leverage,” said Austin DePaolo, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 223. “Working with the International Union on this blitz showed exactly how effective these efforts can be, and it was inspiring to see members embrace the program and understand its importance.”
