Last week, the United Airlines Teamsters National Negotiating Committee made headway at the bargaining table — even as the company showed up once again without the responses they’ve been promising for months.



While United continued to stall on scope and failed to present a real economics proposal, the committee moved forward on key items, proposing strong contract language on safety and health and getting closer to agreements on other important protections.



“These might seem like smaller issues, but clearing them now means we can stay laser-focused on winning strong economic and scope language,” said Clacy Griswold, Chair of the Committee. “We’ve shown we’re ready to move — now United needs to step up.”



United Airlines Teamsters also made progress on discussions around the apprenticeship program, facilities, qualifications, and hours of service. But despite positive conversations, frustration among members is growing.



“At this point, it feels like the committee is doing all the work for United,” said Roger Kanakaole, a technician from Teamsters Local 986 serving on the negotiating committee. “We’ve been pushing this process forward and making it as easy as possible for nearly a year while the company keeps stonewalling — we demand real movement.”



Bargaining resumes August 5 in San Francisco.
