TEAMSTERS FOCUS ON ORGANIZING, STRONG CONTRACTS AS GENERAL EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETS

Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien, General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman, and the union’s full General Executive Board convened its summer meeting on Tuesday in Washington, DC. The board reviewed the union’s strong international finances, its ever-growing Strike and Defense Fund, and strategic organizing and contract campaigns underway and kicking off nationwide.

“Financially and administratively, the Teamsters Union today is in the most secure and influential position we’ve seen in generations,” O’Brien said. “In the past three years, we’ve organized more than 80,000 new members into our historic institution. We are negotiating the most powerful labor contracts anywhere in North America. And we are making sure our rank-and-file members have a seat at the table in all arenas, from negotiations to fiduciary investments in the next generation to local and national politics. The state of the union is impressive and getting bigger and better.”

Teamsters across the country continue to take on a diversity of employers, large and small. More than 10,000 airline mechanics and aviation technicians are fighting for a record contract against United Airlines, while 10,000 more Teamsters nurses are preparing to negotiate their first labor agreement with Corewell Health in Detroit this summer.

During the summer executive board meeting, Teamsters leadership also unanimously approved a significant donation to the Variety Village children’s charity, a proud partner of Teamsters Canada supporting children with disabilities.
