The 2025 Teamsters Passenger Transportation Division Conference kicked off today as more than 100 Teamsters gathered in Chicago to hear from General President Sean M. O'Brien, General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman, Passenger Transportation Division Director Matt Taibi, and other Teamsters leaders about industry trends, organizing and contract wins, and resources available to Teamsters affiliates.

“Teamsters contracts are the strongest recruitment tool we have,” O’Brien said. “And the Passenger Transportation Division has been setting the standard for what workers should expect in them.”

Since Teamsters gathered one year ago at their annual conference, the division has brought in hundreds of new members and ratified industry-leading contracts that protect thousands of existing Teamsters.

“Organizing is at the center of what we do,” Taibi said. “Building membership and union density means we are building worker power. When workers have power, we have leverage at the bargaining table to address key issues like protection of rights and access to Teamsters pension plans..

“One reason we’ve had so many wins is the success we’ve had in ratifying industry-leading contracts,” Zuckerman said. “Teamsters all across the country have been securing huge gains like higher wages, great health care plans that save them hundreds of dollars a month, strong retirement plans, workplace protections, and guaranteed hours.”

This afternoon, attendees will gather for discussions and workshops on organizing targets, safety and health issues in the industry, and preparing for national master negotiations with First Student.
