Teamsters railroaders from the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division (BMWED) were in our nation’s capital this week sharing their views and voices on critical rail issues, including rail safety, funding for the Railroad Retirement Board, and Amtrak.



As Congress debates the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill, members of the BLET and BMWED met with lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to raise their biggest priorities and concerns for the critical legislation.



Rail Teamsters in Illinois also lobbied lawmakers at the state capitol. Illinois faces a $750 million budget shortfall for funding public transportation, and the BMWED and BLET have joined a coalition of unions across the state to advocate for "United We Move," legislation that would improve the state's transportation infrastructure, address the fiscal problems and protect union jobs.
