In the afternoon, attendees at the Passenger Transportation Division Conference participated in workshops on strategic campaigns and heard about industry safety standards from Joe DeLorenzo, the Associate Administrator and Chief Safety Officer in the Office of Transit Safety and Oversight at the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
“At the FTA, we are taking a hard look at the issues impacting transit workers and riders alike, including assaults and fatigue. These can be difficult to measure and often go unreported, but we are looking deeper into safety risks and how we can mitigate them,” said DeLorenzo. “We strive to continuously improve transportation through policies and rulemakings and by providing tools and resources for Teamster bus workers.”
Teamsters also heard more about drug and alcohol testing, collisions, and resources available to locals and rank-and-file members.
Attendees will reconvene tomorrow morning for the final day of the conference.
